Over the last few months, several purported photos of the iPhone 7 were ”leaked.” But many of those photos looked distorted or ended up being completely fake. Fortunately, Nowherelse.fr recently published several realistic images of the iPhone 7 family of devices it found on the Weibo social network. You will notice in the leaked images that there are three devices in the iPhone 7 family rather than a pair.
This is a change of pace because Apple has been announcing a pair of new iPhones every year since the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in 2013. The following year brought us the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. And the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus devices were released last year.
The three models shown in these leaked photos are labeled as the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7 Pro. The iPhone 7 appears to sport the same 4.7-inch screen size as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. And the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro devices look like they have the same 5.5-inch screen sizes as the existing Plus line.
There are two things that makes the Pro distinguishable from the other devices: the dual rear cameras and the Smart Connector. The dual rear cameras would make photos look very sharp, even in low-light conditions. And the Smart Connector would likely allow the iPhone 7 Pro to work with certain Apple accessories such as a Smart Keyboard or the Apple Pencil like we have seen in the iPad Pro line.
If you look closely at the back of the devices, there is an “S” with a circle around it below the area where “iPhone” is printed. This means that Apple could skip the “7” moniker this year in favor of the names “iPhone 7S Pro,” “iPhone 7S Plus” and “iPhone 7S” this year. Why would Apple do that? There is a rumor that Apple will be calling its 2017 flagship iPhone the “iPhone 8” as the Cupertino giant commemorates the 10 year anniversary of the devices.
The front of the devices look the same as usual. For example, the front-facing camera, phone speaker and dedicated home button area are all in the same places. But the antenna strips have been moved from the back of the devices to the top and bottom instead. There were rumors that the Home button was going to bedrastically redesigned, but Apple appears to be saving the change for the iPhone 8.
The iPhones in these photos also appear thinner. And the headphone jacks seem to be missing at the bottom of the devices — which has been one of the most controversial iPhone design changes. The upcoming iPhones are expected to start at 32GB of storage space rather than usual 16GB. And there should be major hardware improvements, including updated chips and cameras. Other rumors have suggested that the upcoming iPhone will be water resistant too.
Of course, nothing is official until Apple announces its new devices in September or October. And every Apple leak should be looked at as questionable because the Cupertino giant has been known for surprising consumers in the past. Plus manufacturers sometimes produce clones based on leaked iPhone specifications and that is what we could be seeing here. Apple may also potentially nix one of the larger-sized models and stick with two devices at the actual launch.
